H I T H E R E !

It all started with a failed babysitting career.

As any good entrepreneurial endeavor should start at twelve years old.

The short version of my life is that I grew up in Dublin, Ohio, moved to Rome, Georgia for college, stayed for grad school, graduated, got married and moved to West Palm Beach. Phew!

I’ve been baking and decorating cakes since I was 12 years old, giving me 14 years under my belt so far. I’ve opened, and reopened, Jorie Cakes in four different cities so far as a home bakery, AKA my constant side gig and true love in life.

Now, if you’re like most people, you’re trying to do the mental math of how I got from here to there and everywhere in between. So let me connect the dots for you. ..

I Grew Up in Dublin, Ohio

First of all, O-H.

Second, Ohio is a great state with great people. But it is just too cold for too many months. I decided well before I graduated high school that I was moving south for college. As a lifelong golfer looking to play at the next level, I knew Ohio wasn’t for me anymore. It just so happens that I’m an only child with parents who wanted to move with me, so we packed our bags and started a new life in Northwest Georgia.

Prior to graduation in 2016, I became known as the Cupcake Girl at school, baking for friends and family and the local community. I made my first wedding cake at 15 and never looked back.

Then I Moved to Rome, Georgia

After high school graduation, I moved 10 hours south to Berry College, in the beautiful city of Rome, Georgia. I spent four years playing golf, studying business, and baking out of my dorm room kitchen. Once again, I became known as the Cupcake Girl on campus, selling cupcakes in the library to hungry students, and eventually building up my business again in a new city. My junior and senior years I competed in the PITCH, Berry’s own Shark Tank competition for seed funding. I even filmed a fundraising campaign for the school with our College president.

Unfortunately when I graduated in spring 2020 (in my parents’ living room), the job market tanked.

So I Stayed for Two Years of Grad School

I returned to campus to pursue my MBA and serve as the Program Coordinator for the Berry’s Center for Student Enterprises & Entrepreneurship. That turned out to just a code name for the departments’ utility player, often filling in as event planner, retail store manager, and my favorite of all, farm girl. (No really, I worked with Angus cattle and chickens and a few bees here and there.) That was never in my playbook and is not something I plan to return to, but I do miss slipping out to the coop to visit those 200 hens occasionally (click here for more).

In grad school, my friend Seth Jolly and I started dating. As two golfers at Berry, we quickly realize we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together he proposed. A few months later we graduated, and a few months after that we were married.

And yes, I made our wedding cake!

Little did I know I’d be following now husband all the way to…

Jupiter, Florida

Well, technically, West Palm Beach, Florida. But Jupiter is what brought us down here for his grad school. He’s a chemist - no further questions please - I don’t want to do a disservice by trying to explain what he does. But he’s really smart, and I can always show him ingredient labels and count on him to tell me what’s in it.

We moved to South Florida in July 2022, and within days of living here, I decided to start Jorie Cakes again, taking samples to local businesses on social media to start building my network. West Palm Beach has proven to be the ultimate destination for small businesses; I’ve made so many vendor friends and quickly gained a customer base that I love serving.

I have a full time job in marketing & communications that keeps me busy during the days, then usually before and/or after work most days and nights, I’m standing at my kitchen counter baking for you.

Here We Are Now

Living our little dream, in our tiny slice of Palm Beach. I’m guessing you probably didn’t sign up to know this much about your baker, but one of my favorite things about being your baker is getting to know you and being part of every mile stone that makes life so important. Whether it’s a birthday, wedding, anniversary, gender reveal, baby shower, first birthday, office party or anything else, it’s an honor to serve you a slice of cake. And I promise it will be a really good one.

If you’ve got something to celebrate coming up, send me an inquiry here. If you’re on social media, connect with me here or if you just wanna look at pictures to see what the heck it is I even make check out my favorite gallery here.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for giving me the privilege of getting to know you. Friends, there’s a lot to celebrate here!
